Privacy Policy

Effective date: August 20, 2026  ·  Last updated: August 20, 2026

This Privacy Policy explains what information Earth’s Voice (“Earth’s Voice,” “we,” “us,” or “our”) collects when you visit earthsvoice.org, how we use it, and the choices you have. It applies to this website only.

Who we are

Earth’s Voice is a nonprofit corporation organized in Alabama and recognized as tax-exempt under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. We are based in Montgomery, Alabama. You can reach us at info@earthsvoice.org.

Information we collect

Information you give us

When you fill out a contact form, inquire about a program, subscribe to updates, or email us directly, we collect the information you choose to provide. This typically includes:

  • Your name
  • Your email address
  • Your phone number, if you provide one
  • The content of your message, including anything you tell us about your situation, your organization, or your goals

We only ask for what we need in order to respond to you.

Donor information

If you make a donation, what we collect depends on how you give.

Online card or bank payments. These are handled by a third-party payment processor, which collects the information needed to complete the transaction, including your name, billing address, email address, and payment details. We do not receive or store your full payment card number or bank account number. We receive confirmation of the gift and the details needed to acknowledge it.

Bank transfers and wires. These are handled by your bank and ours. We receive whatever information your bank passes along with the transfer, which generally includes your name and the amount, and may include additional contact or account details depending on the method used.

However you give, we retain donation records — your name, contact information, amount, and date — for acknowledgment, accounting, and tax reporting purposes.

We do not sell, rent, trade, or share our donor list with other organizations for their own fundraising or marketing purposes.

Email updates

If you sign up for our email updates, we collect your email address. We use Mailchimp to manage our subscriber list. Mailchimp also records the date and time you subscribed, the page you subscribed from, and your IP address, in order to document that you asked to receive our messages.

Once you are subscribed, Mailchimp records standard delivery information such as whether a message was delivered, opened, or clicked. We use this only to understand whether our updates are reaching people and whether they are useful.

We do not sell, rent, trade, or share our subscriber list with other organizations. You can unsubscribe at any time using the link at the bottom of any message we send, or by emailing us at info@earthsvoice.org.

Comments

If you leave a comment on this site, we collect the information shown in the comment form, along with your IP address and your browser’s user agent string, to help detect spam.

Comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service. If you use a Gravatar account, an anonymized string created from your email address may be provided to the Gravatar service to display your profile picture; the Gravatar service privacy policy applies to that exchange. After your comment is approved, your profile picture is visible to the public alongside your comment.

Comments and their metadata are retained indefinitely so that follow-up comments can be recognized and approved automatically rather than held in a queue. You can ask us to delete your comments at any time.

Embedded content from other websites

Pages on this site may include embedded content — videos, maps, or similar — from other websites. Embedded content behaves exactly as if you had visited that other website directly. Those websites may collect data about you, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor your interaction with that embedded content, including tracking your interaction with it if you have an account and are logged in to that website.

Information collected automatically

Like most websites, this site and its hosting provider automatically record certain technical information when you visit:

  • Your IP address
  • Browser type and device type
  • Pages you viewed and the time of your visit
  • The website you came from, if any

This information is collected in server logs and by our site analytics, and is used for security, troubleshooting, and understanding general site traffic. We do not use it to identify you personally.

Cookies and similar technologies

This site uses cookies — small text files stored by your browser. The cookies used here fall into these categories:

  • Comment cookies. If you leave a comment, you may opt in to saving your name, email address, and website in cookies so you do not have to fill them in again. These last for one year.
  • Login and session cookies. Set only for site administrators when logging in, to keep the session active. Visitors who do not log in are not given these.
  • Analytics cookies. Set by Jetpack Stats to distinguish visits and produce aggregate traffic reports.

You can block or delete cookies through your browser settings, and most browsers let you refuse third-party cookies specifically. Parts of the site may not work as expected if you do.

How we use your information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Respond to your inquiries
  • Provide programs, services, and information you have requested
  • Process donations and send acknowledgments and receipts
  • Send you updates about our work, if you have asked to receive them
  • Maintain the security and functionality of this website
  • Comply with legal, accounting, and reporting obligations

We do not sell your personal information.

Service providers

We use third-party services to operate this website. These providers may process your information on our behalf, and each has its own privacy policy governing how it handles data:

  • Website hosting and email — GoDaddy, which hosts this site, stores server logs, and provides the email accounts that receive messages you send us
  • Site analytics — Jetpack Stats, provided by Automattic, which records page views and visitor information including IP addresses in order to produce aggregate traffic reports
  • Email updates — Mailchimp, operated by Intuit, which stores our subscriber list and sends the messages you have signed up to receive
  • Donation processing — where we accept donations online, a third-party payment processor handles the transaction and receives your payment details directly. Donations made by bank transfer or wire are handled by your bank and ours rather than by a third-party processor.

Each provider’s own privacy policy governs how it handles data: GoDaddy, Automattic (Jetpack), and Mailchimp, whose privacy statement is published by its parent company Intuit. If you would rather not be counted in our site analytics, you can block analytics cookies in your browser settings or use a browser extension that blocks tracking scripts.

We may also disclose information if required by law, or if necessary to protect our legal rights or the safety of others.

Do Not Track

Some browsers can send a “Do Not Track” signal. There is currently no common industry standard for how websites should respond to these signals. This site does not respond differently when it receives a Do Not Track signal. Third-party services used on this site may collect information about your browsing activity over time; we do not control how those services respond to Do Not Track signals.

How long we keep information

We keep inquiry and program records for as long as needed to provide services and to meet legal, tax, and recordkeeping requirements, and then delete them. Donation records are retained as long as required for accounting and tax reporting. If you subscribe to our email updates, we keep your email address until you unsubscribe or ask us to remove it. Server logs are retained by our host on its standard schedule. If you would like your information removed, contact us and we will do so unless we are required to keep it.

Security

This site uses encrypted (HTTPS) connections, and we take reasonable steps to protect information we hold. No method of transmitting or storing information over the internet is completely secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Where your information is stored

Earth’s Voice operates in the United States, and the information we collect is stored and processed on servers in the United States by the providers listed above. If you are contacting us or subscribing from outside the United States, your information will be transferred to and stored in the United States, where privacy laws may differ from those in your country.

Your choices and rights

You can:

  • Ask us what personal information we hold about you
  • Ask us to correct information that is wrong
  • Ask us to delete your information
  • Unsubscribe from our email updates at any time, using the link in any message we send
  • Ask us to stop contacting you

Depending on where you live, state privacy laws may give you additional rights. Alabama’s Personal Data Protection Act takes effect May 1, 2027 and applies to larger organizations; we do not currently meet its thresholds, but we will honor the requests above regardless. To make a request, email info@earthsvoice.org. We may need to verify your identity before responding.

Children’s privacy

This website is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13 through this site. Where our programs involve minors, we work through a parent or guardian and collect information from that adult, not from the child. If you believe a child has provided us information through this site, contact us and we will delete it.

Links to other websites

This site may link to other websites we do not control. We are not responsible for their content or privacy practices. Review the privacy policy of any site you visit.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will change the “Last updated” date at the top of this page and post the revised policy here. If the changes are significant, we will post a notice on the site. Continuing to use the site after a change means you accept the updated policy.
